Jeanne Urban Biography

I'm a Canadian artist from a very small and once famous mining town in Northern Ontario but I’ve made Calgary my home for the past 20 years.  Cobalt had a thriving artist community and every summer artist colonies would come to town to paint the iconic head frames and twisted streets. We were lucky to have a local artist offer painting classes. This delightful, eccentric, lady had us painting worn out miners boots and rusted out headframes and I loved it.

A career as an artist was not in the cards, but I continued to sharpen my artistic saw taking courses when I could and focusing mainly on portraiture. Pastel paintings of neices and nephews adorn walls across Canada.

After retiring I jumped into the painting game with both feet, going back to my origianl and most loved medium - oil paint - and taking courses and workshops whenever a subject or artistic style called to me.

Today I paint landscapes, animals - wild and domestic - and of course I do portraits as I am always drawn to the human form. I enjoy plein air painting (outdoors) but must admit I am a fair weather painter and will work from my photographs - or those of others on a commission basis.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it for you...and for me.
