Ray Swirsky Biography
Ray Swirsky is a Calgary based oil painter, full time metis artist, who began painting in the fall of 2014. With no formal education in the arts, he has grasped on quickly to understanding the fundamentals of light, value and intensity, creating a real sense of atmosphere and depth into his paintings. He works with both brush and pallet knife creating works that vary in detail from fine realism to a looser, almost abstract, style of realism.
Having grown up in the small town of Kimberley, BC, Ray has never lost his connection with nature. Grand mountain scenes, western landscapes and large animals make up the core of his paintings.
Ray is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA), the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA), Oil Painters of America and World Artists for Conservation. In his short career, Ray’s work can be found in many corporate & private collections across Canada, USA, and the UK. Ray is a regular exhibitor at the Calgary Exhibition & Stampede Artists' Studio.
“I get most enjoyment from painting Western Canadian landscapes and wildlife but I also challenge myself with different material from time to time. If you view my catalogue of work you will find everything from elephants to mountain scenes, still life to portrait, birch trees to dramatic city scapes."
